I’m looking for guidance from those with commercial food-fish or aquaponics experience.
I’m working with a commercial live food-fish holding system containing tilapia, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. In the ornamental aquarium industry we commonly use products such as Seachem Prime to temporarily detoxify ammonia and nitrite during emergencies while corrective actions are taken.
Is there an FDA-approved or otherwise accepted equivalent for live food-fish holding systems?
If not, what is considered current best practice beyond:
- Large water changes
- Increased aeration/oxygenation
- Biofiltration
- Food-grade sodium chloride (where appropriate)
